Murmur catches up on everything new since last time and hands you a brief. Close the window and it's gone.
Quietby design.
Here is everywhere your messages go, and the one place they never do.
Your computerMurmur runs here, only while it's openRuns only when you ask
No background process, nothing listening. Close the window and it has fully quit.
Read-only and slow
It never posts, reacts or joins. Requests go one at a time, within rate limits.
Stays on your computer
Keys are encrypted by the operating system. Messages are never saved, only reports.
Your AI, your choice
Message text goes only to the endpoint you pick. Murmur has no servers of its own.
Questions, answered plainly.
Can using Murmur get my Discord account restricted?
It can. Murmur reads messages with a user account's token, which goes against Discord's Terms of Service, and Discord may restrict or ban accounts that do this. Murmur keeps its requests slow and read-only, but that doesn't remove the risk. Use a secondary account you'd be fine losing — never your main one.
What do I need to run it?
A Mac or a Windows PC, a secondary Discord account that has joined the servers you care about, and access to an AI model through any OpenAI-compatible API: a base URL, an API key and a model name.
Where does my data go?
Your settings, followed servers, reading positions and reports stay on your computer. Message text is sent only to the AI endpoint you set up, to write the summary. Murmur has no servers, so nothing is sent to us.
How much does it cost?
Murmur is free. Your AI provider bills you for the tokens your summaries use, at their usual rates.
Which systems are supported?
macOS on Apple Silicon and Intel, and Windows.
Why does my computer warn me when I open it?
The installers aren't signed by Apple or Microsoft yet. On macOS, right-click Murmur in Applications and choose Open, or allow it under System Settings → Privacy & Security. On Windows, click More info, then Run anyway.
Which languages does it speak?
The app is in English and Chinese. Summaries can be written in English, Chinese, Japanese or Korean, whatever language the messages were in.
